crawling!

She did it! It's not the prettiest crawl, but she's definitely mobile now. We got it recorded but my Flipshare software was acting screwy so I can't get the file posted online. After an hour and a half on the phone with tech support (because I have that kind of extra time), we learned that there is some sort of internal problem with the camera so they're going to send out a replacement. Once I get that, videos will be posted! For the meantime, here's a cute pic from her "pool".

hmmm

I wish I could blame this on one of the dogs....but this is what happens when mom sleeps in and dad and baby are hanging out. The culprit:

I'm still here!

Soooooo, school is kicking my butt right now.....but only one more week before summer break! We had a 5 hour test on Friday that covered the last 9 weeks and have another test coming up this Friday that covers everything we've done since January. YIKES! I don't even know how to begin studying for this behemoth. The only thing getting me through this next week is the thought of nearly 6 blissful weeks of NO STUDYING. After that break, I'll be doing a preceptorship (a.k.a. playing doctor) for 4 weeks at the Brazos Family Medicine Residency Program in Bryan. I'll finally have a chance to put my clinical skills to the test and *hopefully* apply some of this knowledge I've acquired.

On another note, I've decided to postpone my weight-loss plan until school wraps up because I just don't have time to get all my healthy "stuff" together. I know, I'm a slacker. Deal with it.

Time to find a hobby

One of the many lessons I've learned in med school is that you really need to make time for yourself and forget about school for a little while. Not that I really have a lot of extra time on my hands, but I want to find some way to creatively spend my "free" time. I haven't had a hobby in a long time, so I've decided to give sewing a try. My wonderful mother-in-law has offered her spare sewing machine for my use, and I attempted to make some fleece soakers (diaper covers) for Peyton. Keep in mind this is my very first attempt at using a sewing machine, so I have a lot to learn....but I think they turned out cute!

This is the first one I made:

I screwed up on the first one, but it's really not too bad. I can't wait to find some "recycled" wool sweaters because they look really cute with this pattern. Unfortunately, that project will have to wait until summer break....which is only 3 weeks away! I found the pattern online; it's called Katrina's Sew Quick Soaker, and it was free. I used fabric remants from Joann's that were marked down an additional 50% off, so I spent $7ish on the fleece and still have a bunch left.

Cloth Diapers

For those who don't already know, over the last few weeks we have switched Peyton to cloth diapers. No, I'm not growing out my body hair or giving up deodorant...but I am saving some cash and the world, one diaper at a time! Cloth diapers nowadays aren't what they used to be. They're actually really cute and good for baby's delicate skin.

It's been an adventure to say the least, and I think I may finally have Jason on board. If it wasn't for the pocket diapers I don't think he would be too into it. I like experimenting with the prefolds and trying out different "folds", but maybe I'm just a weirdo. I've even been thinking about trying to make a few pocket-style diapers to add to the "stash" (over summer break, of course)! It's kind of my new obsession. So far my stash consists of 5 Fuzzibunz pocket diapers, 3 Bumgenius pocket diapers, 1 Flip hybrid, and about 15 prefolds with a few covers. I usually wash diapers every other day, and it takes all of 10 minutes out of my day to throw them in the wash, then into the dryer, then put them away. If you know anyone interested, my mom can now order the Fuzzibunz diapers as well as a super awesome detergent I've been using called Crunchy Clean (they make both diaper and regular formulas).

What about the poop?! That's the big question everyone asks. I actually got a cool little sprayer that takes care of that, so no worries. It sounds gross, but it's really not that bad at all. Did I mention how cute they are?!?!?

Drop it Like it's Hot

I've decided that I want to lose weight. I gained 32 pounds while pregnant with Peyton, lost 3o of those pounds by my 6 week postpartum appointment, and have gained back 10ish upon returning to school. Ideally, I would LOVE to lose 25 pounds, but I would be happy to drop 15 or so. I would like to contribute the weight gain to school, but it probably has more to do with the crazy sweet tooth and ferocious appetite that didn't leave with the pregnancy. The final straw was when I started to outgrow my "fat" pants, which is a girl's worst nightmare.

I keep saying I'm going to eat healthier and start exercising again, but I also keep putting it off....so here goes. Hopefully by keeping track of my weekly goals here I will feel a little more accountable.

Starting this Sunday, I'm going to have a weekly weigh-in. My goal is to lose 1-2 pounds per week. At that rate, I will reach the lower threshold of the realistic goal by my birthday....and if I continue, I will have lost 25 by Peyton's first birthday. Wish me luck!!!

Here we go!

I've decided to start a blog! Why now? Well, my life is pretty busy and I have a lot on my mind that I want to share. Feel free to stop by and see how I'm doing. Or don't.
